It might just be noise.
But it could be a warning sign.
Snoring happens when air can't flow freely through your airway during sleep. Your throat muscles relax, your airway narrows, and the tissue vibrates as you breathe.
For some people, it's occasional and harmless. But chronic, loud snoring — especially with gasping or choking — can be a sign of obstructive sleep apnea, a condition where your breathing actually stops multiple times a night.
When these signs show up together, it's time to see a specialist for sleep apnea.
Loud, nightly snoring that wakes your partner
Gasping, choking, or pauses in breathing
Waking up tired no matter how long you slept
Morning headaches or dry mouth
Falling asleep during the day
When snoring is linked to sleep apnea, it affects more than just your sleep.
Poor quality sleep (for both you and your partner)
Increased risk of high blood pressure and heart disease
Daytime fatigue and difficulty focusing
Strain on relationships
Reduced oxygen levels overnight
Our specialists will look beyond the snoring itself to understand
the underlying causes.
